The main thrust of the new series is the industrialisation of Britain in the 19th Century. It’s about the second wave of industrial growth, when mass production was the driving force of change. Entrepreneurs, inventors and scientists transformed the workplace and the home, building on the achievements of the early days of the industrial revolution and the coming of the steam engine described by Mark in the first series.
Each of the 10 programmes traces the development of a particular industry or combination of industries. Sometimes the path will be straightforward – sometimes it involves some surprising twists and turns.
